... i am off the pill, and honestly i think that has contributed to my hair... being on a monophasic pill for the last 8 years my body is shocked without the hormones. so many times i wanted to give up and go back on it, but my doctors think i should ride it out because i'm on the 4th month already and i really really don't wanna do this ever again. so i'm done with it. i'm... ... Basically low ferretin and hair shedding when there is so called 'no apparent reason' according to doctors is a real mystery and a lot of people on these boards would love to find the answer. ... (8 replies)
... prokureur - The reason my doctor is doing everything for me is that he works in a University and he deals with small groups of "problem patients". By 'problem', i mean people who are doing all the right things, yet are having problems raising their ferretin and have a diagnosed thyroid condition. It also helps that this doctor is a Hashi's sufferer himself and relates to... (80 replies)

... gesting protein as i've not got sufficient pancreatic enzymes. This could be a big part of the reason why my ferretin dropped and it would have added to my hair shedding woes. I'm now taking prescription digestive enzymes with all my main meals and i feel so much better. No more bloating or feeling super tired after meals. ... (80 replies)
... I have Hashi's and have always had hair loss to some degree (a little noticeable shedding) nothing too awful. When I was anemic on the other hand, it was terrible:(. I had hair all over my clothing, floors and it would get into my food, that was the worst besides the scare this caused me. Iron loss has been my main reason for a large amount of loss over a period of... (80 replies)
... cathy57 - i'm like you, my hair shedding was uniform and from all over my scalp and i never went "bald" or "alopecia-like". My Trichologist did say that anemia or other illnesses which cause hair loss can bring on early alopcea if it is genetic. Thankfully i didn't have that to worry over as well. It's bad enough losing so much of it, but if i ended up with the alopecia... (80 replies)
... My gp tried to stick me on birth control pills years ago when i had the hair shedding, ferretin falling, messed up menstrual cycle issues (not that he even noticed the ferretin falling). I tried 3 different brands of the pill and each one had the most awful side effects. I then went off the pill and refused my gp's "band aid" treatment. Lucky i never took the pill as the... ... That is excellent that you had such quick results :) From the extensive time i've spent on this board i have found that the only people who go up so fast ferretin-wise are those who may have either lost a lot of blood at one time eg: childbirth or those with a more vegetarian diet and then they changed their diet and added meat and/or iron supplements. A lot of us have... (19 replies)
... ment to myself. I believe she was seeing some sort of an allergy specialist and i believe he was attempting to treat her with iodine supplements and her hair is shedding badly too. At least he was able to diagnose all her particular ailments, but i feel it's best to see a professional once you know you have a particular thing. ... (34 replies)
... hermes - some of us have doctors who have actually helped us, unlike those doctors who simply believe in "within range", and our doctors have given us a figure as guidline of where they feel we would be best at. Yes, some people possibly get too fixated on a particular figure so they don't see outside the square and become oblivious to other things which are going on eg: is... (34 replies)
... i say i didn't seem to fit into 'hypo' i think it's mainly due to me feeling i had symptoms from both hypo and hyper. The main thing was the tiredness and hair shedding and anemia seemed easiest to blame for all that. I should have known it was all too easy and convenient. ... (34 replies)
... My ferretin was at an 8 when they discovered my low iron. I always put my tiredness down to a hectic job, but couldn't work out why my hair was constantly shedding more than it ought to have been. After further blood tests i found out my iodine and vitamin D were both extremely low. ... (11 replies)
... Hey, guys. Just wanted to check in. My hair is still shedding....but does seem to have slowed down a bit. Last few days, have only been losing around 6-10 hairs in the shower and around 30 or so in the sink while I am fixing my hair (of course, I am sure some fall on the floor and throughout the day......and I don't see them.). I am still taking the ferrous sulfate 3xday... (9 replies)
... My treating doctor also says 70+ ug/L and that is his goal for me and if possible 125-150 ug/L. The reason for these figures is based on studies done by Dr Hugh Rushton (based in Harley St, London) who has confirmed that ferretin is required to be 70+ and maintained at that level, or higher, for at least 3 months to effect a significant decrease in telogen shedding rate and...
