... You posted this under thallasemia, so do you have a diagnosis of that type anemia? Low MCV is usually a sign of iron deficiency. High RDW is rather nonspecific and seen in different types of anemia. I would wonder what your hemoglobin, hematocrit, serum iron and ferritin levels are. If you are anemic, the cause of the anemia should be identified, as anemia is merely a symptoms... (3 replies)

... Thalassemia major was widely known for many, many years and it known by its original name -- Cooley's Anemia People would get this if both parents carried the anemia trait. ... There is nothing for Thalassemia Minor right now. And I'm alwaysssss tired because I have it compounded by Epstein Barr Otherwise known as Chronic Fatigue Syndome. You have to watch the amount of Iron you take in because if you don't need the iron, your body will store it in organs its not suppose to be in.
