... i've been doing some research on this type of anemia or one dr has diagnosed my daughter of having it. i too have anemia....thallesemia i think since birth. i read that hydrocromic mycrocystic anemia has something to do with iron deficiency but when they went over her charts with me, her iron was fine and also the ferritin levels were on the low side but still "within range".... ... Have you discussed these results with your Dr? You are significantly anemic, so no wonder you feel badly. The most important thing from here is to figure out why you are anemic. There are many causes. Yours appears to be iron deficiency, which can come from poor dietary intake, poor absorption in gut, blood loss, often from gut, like bleeding ulcers. ... You posted this under thallasemia, so do you have a diagnosis of that type anemia? Low MCV is usually a sign of iron deficiency. High RDW is rather nonspecific and seen in different types of anemia. I would wonder what your hemoglobin, hematocrit, serum iron and ferritin levels are. If you are anemic, the cause of the anemia should be identified, as anemia is merely a symptoms... (3 replies)
