... If you look at your lab ranges, you will see normal results for your 12 yr old. If you do not have a copy I would suggest asking for one for your own reference. I think you are doing the right thing by taking a b12 supplement. I take the sublingual, the thing with B12 is taking the right amount, 500 mg won't do anything.
