... hello, I'm wondering what is happening (the process), when one has LOW Iron(transferrin) 12% Saturation, but Low-Normal Serum Iron and Ferritin, and NORMAL(mid range) Iron Binding? Does this mean that my cells/tissues are getting little iron for optimal functioning? I know Serum Iron is the iron circulating at the time blood was taken, and can fluctuate (how is this... ... serum iron with low iron saturation put me into the "iron deficiency anemia" or "chronic disease anemia" side? ... (0 replies)
... Transferrin saturation is decreased with iron deficiency. As your iron levels drop your numbers will drop. Low ferritin is a sign of anemia. I am no Dr. ... (2 replies)

Question on number
Apr 22, 2009
... shopgirl37--Your numbers are typical of iron deficiency. Although you very well may not be anemic. Anemia is the end stage of the ferritin stores and the bottom for this range is usually 10-15. You are just above range which would make you iron deficient. You will most likely need to take supplements until your levels are at least 50-100. This can take up to a year for... (1 replies)

I almost began iron and bought floradix(sp?), but now reading online, I'm confused/ scared whether it's clear iron deficiency or disease triggered anemia. Some sites say ferritin... (5 replies)
... :) Hello everyone, I have been followed by my PCP in WA and a different PCP while I was in eating disorder treatment, and NOW have a different PCP in AZ following my care, so I feel a little lost on what should be done with my anemia. I feel very cold at times, my toe nails look like they are a bluish/pale, and I have had a fast heart rate at times and have felt short... (5 replies)
... Hi, Late last year I was diagnosed as being iron deficient, unfortunately my doctor seemed eager to get through his patients as quickly as possible that day, so I was unable to get a more detailed explanation on what my blood tests revealed. I have done some research online and have a rough idea on how things work regarding iron deficiency but was wondering if some more... (4 replies)
... Hey everyone, Well, I just say my GP this afternoon because I was concerned that when she checked my labs when she took me on as a patient when I moved to AZ just recently that she didn't check a ferritin and that my levels hadn't gone up that much, though not that low I guess to begin with, though the biggest thing is that I am having diarrhea 4-5 times/day, sometimes... ... View--Welcome to the boards-- When your total body iron is high ferritin is usually high, when total iron body is low, ferritin tends to be low as well. ~Iron deficient people~ tend to have a ferritin less than 10-12 whatever the bottom of your range is. My Hematologist says under 10, there is no iron remaining. Transferrin shows the amount of iron "available"... (1 replies)
... responsible for moving the iron where it needs to go. HVT can be caused by a genetic mutation and certain meds. You may want your doctor to run a "Transferrin saturation test", "Total iron binding capacity test", "Serum Ferritin test" and a "HFE mutation test. Web MD will have more info. on this. ... ... OK, I know that something is very wrong with me, but I don't have much of a clue *what* might be wrong... Search if you want my full symptom list etc. I should probably mention my age: I'm 21. From what I understand, hemochromatosis/iron overload can be detected at my age, but it shouldn't cause any problems/symptoms until at least 40 years old... Anyway. These are my... (1 replies)
