... Since the concern was high iron and high Transferrin and low UIBC and low TIBC numbers look better, although I know most people on the anemia board are trying to go in the other direction. ... (21 replies)
... My blood tests over the past 3 years have shown low-to-borderline RBC (4 - 4.2), normal MCV (93-96), and borderline-to-high MCH (32-33). Is there a kind of anemia that could cause this? My latest blood tests however show this: July 9th 2012: (pre-surgery) RBC - 4.20 (normal: 4.2-5.2) NORMAL MCH - 33 (normal: 27-31) HIGH MCV - 93.8 (normal: 82 - 100) NORMAL Ferritin... (3 replies)
... My mom and I are usually anemic but have not been diagnosed with any disease, we just "run low." He has not been to a hematologist TIBC was done and was also high, I believe 500 something. ... Help!!!! What the heck does it mean when you have a ferritin of 11 but an iron saturation of 98% (normal is 25-50%...is this transferrin iron saturation?) and iron (not sure if this is serum iron, it just says iron) is 47 UMOL/L (normal is 11-27). ... Hello, anemic friends! I'm new to the board and have been reading the posts like crazy trying to make sense of my recent discouraging blood test results. The results are similar to many others who've posted, but I wanted to run them by the forum in case something stood out. Any insights, advice or just plain encouragement would be very welcome. A little background. I'm a... (0 replies)
... I was diagnosed with IDA in July due to having gastric bypass 5 years ago and not supplementing. I've been taking 250mg elemental iron and 3 Proferrin for 8 weeks now. Actually I've been taking 300mg elemental a day for the last two weeks, but it took some time to work up to these levels so 250mg is about average. I wonder if these results are about typical? My Hemoglobin and... (1 replies)
... The question is why the high iron levels with such a low ferritin. I feel like crap and I'd like to go to the hematologist informed. ... (3 replies)
... I received my labwork back from the NP and I have been diagnosed with IDA. She gave me iron pills but I had a total colectomy a year and a half ago and I think the IDA is from not having large intestines. I am concerned that I will not be able to absorb the pills and may need a shot/infusion. I am not sure of the severity of my anemia as the NP referred me to my Gastro. Any... (4 replies)

I had a colonoscopy/endoscopy done-had 2 polyps in the colon that were normal, a polyp in my stomach which was normal, and one in my duodenum which was also normal. The gastro. doctor said he didn't see any reason for bleeding from these two tests. I haven't had a follow up visit with him, just spoke to a hurried nurse on... (23 replies)
