Hi Lu,

effexor sometimes helps with panic attacks and anxiety, how long have you been on it, it can take up to 6 weeks to work properly and occasionally never works, your dose is about right
a valium type med would help a lot and if your psych hasnt given you one I would lose faith in him as these work immediately and go well with the effexor, do try to get some valium type meds such as xanax or clonazepam, but all the others will help. Its rare for anxiety sufferers to become addicted to them

therapy can help if it focuses on how to cope with the panic attacks and how to relax, some types of therapy dont do this or address your particular problems and arent much use, IMO

claite weekes books are helpful but were all written many years ago, any modern book on overcoming panic disorder or agoraphobia will help, recovery courses are also available, some written by former sufferers

you are entitled to ask yourself whether its worth continuing with your psych and the therapy.

its always difficult to know whether new problems are being caused by anxiety or the antidepressant, the antidepressant side effects usually stop when it starts working properly which can take up to 6 weeks

do try to relax, dont tense up or fight back against the panic attacks or anxiety, also breathe deep and slow, avoid rapid shallow panting and dont hold your breath when anxious
