OK...here is my story. I am a 24 year old male college student. I recently made a pretty significant change in my life and moved back home to finish school full time. I have never had any problem with mental illness before nor do I have any family history of it.

One night about a month and a half ago, I was lying in bed and out of no where became very light headed. This was followed by shaking and a sense of "things being unreal" or "disconnected from reality". I got up went and got a glass of water, took a shower, and tried to calm down. But I couldnt help but think something was wrong with me. Well, about 3 days later, I came down with the flu. So naturally I thought the symptomes from that night were something to do with the flu.

Since then, I have had a sense of "cloudyness". I am constantly worried about feeling the way I did that night. Well, the past three days, every night, I have had those same feelings. Its really strange because I never get sick and people who know me, know that I would be the last person to suffer from a panic attack. Thats what make me think it may be something physical, though I am healthy and tall/slim.

So I started surfing the net because I have an x-girlfriend who I still talk to and has anxiety and she sudgested that I may have it. Well, I came across the ADAA website and came across there list of symptomes and I matched alot of them:

* a feeling of imminent danger or doom;
* the need to escape;
* trembling;
* shortness of breath or a smothering feeling;
* nausea or abdominal discomfort;
* dizziness or lightheadedness;
* a sense of things being unreal, depersonalization;
* a fear of losing control or "going crazy";
* a fear of dying;
* tingling sensations;
* chills or hot flushes.

The symptomes in bold are the significant ones. Please help. I need to know what I need to do. Should I go to a physician? psychiatrist? Is it physical/mental?

Nobody knows I have these symptomes. They also mainly occur at night.

Sounds like anxiety to me. You also sound exactly how I feel. My symptoms happen alot at night also and I am having them right now in fact. I would see your dr. He can give you something to help you during those times you feel anxiety. I always feel that sense of doom, like something bad is going to happen to me at any moment. I get lightheaded, a smothering feeling and a sense that nothing is real. It is a very scary feeling. Nightime is the worse for me. I dont know why. Sometimes I get a panicky feeling and feel like I have to escape. Oh my God. I could go on and on. I would definately see a dr. and he can help you. I, myself, was just given Xanax for my anxiety but I have taken 3 pills so far and am having sexual side effects so I will se my dr. Tues and ask for something else. But other than the loss of desire for sex the Xanax were great. Good Luck!
