I hope you don't mind if I bring this old thread up again.

Anyone know how much of an effect anxiety can have on cholesterol? I also wonder how quickly your cholesterol can change.

For example due to my anxiety problem I an incredibly difficult time at the doctor. My blood pressure shoots through the roof and all the other typical problems. I'm wondering how much this is changing my cholesterol levels. The test I just had was showing my total cholesterol at almost 300 but I wonder how much of that was due to the incredible stress of having the test done.

Plus I'm almost positive it is somewhat higher due to the long term effects of anxiety. As far as I can tell that is just a side effect of anxiety disorder. I have had it all my life but it only got really bad in the last 3 or 4 years.

I believe my doctor is going to try to get me on some cholesterol lowering drug because it is so high and I otherwise have no physical problems (not overweight, eat right, etc.). However, I don't want to treat the wrong thing and those statins look like really bad drugs. So far I haven't been able to completely control my anxiety though. Antidepressants didn't work (horrible side effects like suicidal ideation), Depakote helps but not enough. I'm not sure what to do.
