I went to my doc. about 6 weeks ago with symptoms of anxiety attacks/rapid heart rate. I am in the middle of a bunch of tests to explain a (benign) rapid heart rate and was put on toprol xl (beta blocker). I was feeling pretty good a couple weeks ago, but now I'm definitely slipping back. My heart rate doesnt spike up anymore, but I have tightness in my head, tingling, nausea, constant fear, and tonight I can't stop myself fron shaking, and I'm not cold.

I really want to try some anxiety meds, preferably a low low dosage as needed of xanax, because I am reaching the end of my rope. what is the quickest way to do this? Is a phone conversation with my doctor (general) enough, or should I make an appointment? I won't be seeing my cardiologist again for another 2 weeks, and I don't know if I can wait that long, and I don't even knoe if cardiologists can prescribe things like xanax.

Help! What should I do?
