Hi--

I've taken both for anxiety, and truthfully, the Xanex worked like a dream, that is, back when you could find a Dr. to prescribe it for you. I now take .1 Klonopin, and it works okay. This is the generic tho, and when I have had the brand name Klonopin, I only needed .5, and it was just as effective. I was on Zoloft 10 years ago, which worked great, got rid of every trace of anxiety I had...just don't want to deal with some of the side effects of it again...like a dead sex drive, no feelings, couldn't even cry no matter how sad I could be, (like at a loved one's funeral). Wish they didn't have those bad effects. For now, I'll keep taking 1 Klono a day...rarely take 2.

Good luck...
Deda
I have also tried all, xanex is more like a "band-aid" only lasting for so long, where klonopin is a continous med. I have been on klonopin for 3 years, started at 1 mg 2 x day and now yesterdy was put on 1 mg 4x day. I take one in am and the other 3 before bed..
Good luck!

As with Paxil CR, I don't think Xanax Xr is necessary. The regular Xanax because it absorbs quicker makes it better to take on an as needed basis. Klonopin absorbs a little slower but lasts longer. Klonopin and Xanax are probably the most prescribed benzos. Both meds can be wonder drugs when used properly.
I also have tried Xanax and Klonpin.
The poblem with Xanax is it is out of your body in 4 hours, which literally give you withdrawl symptoms every 4 hours. The klonopin last much longer and does not leave the body so abruptly.
As for Paxil, Zoloft etc. I agree with the other replies, tooo many side effects! Just several weeks ago I was started on Seroquel, which seems to be working well so far. As many medications, it was not "designed" to treat anxiety but they have found it works. It's not cheap, but worth getting rid of the everlasting feeling of dread!!
Good Luck
Mr Jeff
Is Klonopin the same type of med as Xanax? Is it a valium type med that you can take as needed or is it more like Paxil? The Xanax worked very well for me, but my MD doesn't do refills on it. Lexapro and Paxil had an awful effect on me and the Xanax when needed was just enough to get me through the night if I was dealing with the irregular heartbeat for hours. I walked out of my follow-up appt. very frustrated, wondering where do I go from here because I know I need something to get me through whatever it is I am going through right now. Any input from anyone?
Thanks!
Lorri
Klonopin or the generic of is a benzo. I take the generic of klonopin and have used xanax...I feel like most of the others that the klonopin is so much nicer cuz it does not have to be taken as often. If you are seeing aDr. that won't prescribe this to you....go find a new Dr. because no one should have to live with anxiety. I am going through peri-meno right now and so my zoloft that I have taken for several years isn't cutting it for me anymore (probably has run its course) so I am taking a 1/2 of a .5 mg pill each morning. God Bless, Lainey

Thanks ~ I am going to my gynecologist this week because I'm thinking it's hormonal/peri-menopause. I'm only 40, but the heartbeat irregularity is worse during certain times of my cycle. I'm hoping she will be able to prescribe it for me. How do you go about finding an MD that will not have a problem prescribing it? Would I have to go to a psychiatrist for that kind of med?
God bless you too, Lorri
To answer the question about what Seroquel is, it was originally designed for psychosis...But dont let that scare you, you gotta remember that so many medications we take were designed for reasons other than for the reason we are taking them. Such as Klonopin was originally designed strictly for seizures, it was not until very recently even listed in the PDR as an anti- anxiety agent. I found out about the Seroquel from a friend, so I just asked my psychiatrist about it, he agreed that since the other meds I had been taking (Remeron) were not doing the job, it was time to switch. If you do talk to your Dr. about Seroquel, see if they have any samples available. Give it a try. I certainly like sleeping all nite, and getting rid of that derealization feelings. I dont have any med. insurance, so i have applied to the manufacture "AstraZeneca" for their Patient Asssistance Program. I am also taking my Klonopin but much, much less. For the first time in years I am feeling more "centered" and not like I am going out of my mind.
Hope this information will help as many as possible. I am just telling you my own experience, from someone who has had to deal with this anxiety for over 22 year!!
Lemme know if it helps
Good Luck, and God Bless
