Sounds to me like your having anxiety when you wake up. A lot of us get anxiety with a racing heart upon waking in the morning or when woken in the middle of the night which can make it difficult to fall back to sleep. It is good deep breathing helps you. It happens to me sometimes, too where I wake up with my heart racing. I'll take my pulse and it's like 140!! But interestingly enough, my blood pressure will be quite normal and steady.

I think that it stands to reason that since we are in a more relaxed state in our sleep, our mind will wander more freely and therefore perhaps cause more anxiety while we sleep. If we can get panicked while awake, why can't we do so while we are asleep?

I've had some tests done by my regular doc and a cardiologist and they pronounced me healthy. Therefore, I must conclude that my own waking up with heart racing thing is purely panic related. I think that yours is too, but if you are really concerned then totally go see a doc to talk about it. Just know that it's a very common thing for those of us who suffer from panic attacks to get them at night while we are sleeping.
