Benzos and anxiety
Mar 20, 2008
It is my experience that the benzo class of drugs(valium, ativan, xanax)are great when used for a short period of time however, I am trying to get off them and I find that the so called "rebound" anxiety is worse than the anxiety that I went on them in the first place.

I'm wondering if there are any others out there that have had the same experience.

I have been on benzos, on and off, for most of my adult life.
Only in recent years has my diagnosis been correct(bipolar II) and I have been place on appropriate medication. Afterward, my life changed completely. In fact I often tell people that I fell like I am only 3 yrs old, even though I am now 50yrs. I have lost much of the charisma that I had when I was not on these med and I have notice some intellectual "blunting" . I don't seem to know how to react in social situations. I sometimes feel lost for words.

Has anyone else had these kinds of experiences, and if so, how did you cope with them.

I consider myself to be well educated, creative and articulate but, I turn into a dunce when I'm around people.
