Isn't it all about the way we think that causes us to feel the way we do. I think we cause our own anxiety in the mornings (at least in my case it seems) because when I wake up I sort of "check" to see if I have anxiety with the negative thoughts and feelings etc. And sure enough I do because I put them there.

I once heard that anxiety is a mask for us to deal with stressful things because the things we are covering are much more painful to face and more difficult to "fix" than the anxiety (believe it or not).
