Re: Meds
Apr 3, 2011
Thanks for the replies, they are appreciated. I have an appointment with my psych doctor on wednesday and will mention some of this. I do want to give paxil another try, but start at a lower dose this time. Last time I was started at 20mg which I am now told is a bit high.?? I am also going to ask about valium. Another doctor of mine gave me lorazepam which for some reason I just don't like. It makes me sort of agitated and gives me very severe double vision. Then a coulpe of months ago I was in the ER for a severe headache and they gave me a few valium to take home. Those seemed to work MUCH better, but the doctor who gave me the lorazepam does not like valium for some reason and won't prescribe it. (Xanax either) Is there a big difference that would cause his hesitation?
Thanks again,
Travis

I'm not sure about you, but I'm highly sensitive to medications. So, I always start slow. Paxil is one of MANY options, so discuss this with your Pdoc. I just happen to do well with Paxil and its a very cheap (generic).

Lorazepam is Ativan. Maybe your Pdoc doesn't like Valium or Xanax because they have a longer list of meds they interact with? You'd need to check with him/her. Either way, all three (Valium, Xanax and Ativan) are in the same family of drugs (benzodiazepines).
