I can totally relate. Before I was diagnosed with GAD (generalised anxiety disorder) I thought my boss hated me, misinterpreted conversations so that in my mind I thought they thought I was an idiot and it was like I had a little inaudible voice in my head telling me that I was not good enough. Of course I was wrong and it was my illness. I would strongly advise you to seek some help. Help comes in a lot of forms, such as natural remedies (magnesium supplements, relaxation techniques, exercise and breathing techniques), cognitive behaviour therapy with a psychologist or antidepressants (they were what helped me). It is important for you to understand that you can have a normal life once you get the help you need. Challenging your fears once you have the appropriate tools will help you to overcome them, but you must first learn the tools. When I went to the doctors to seek help I broke down and sobbed much the same as you did. My doctor was very understanding and gave me much relief with the words "we can fix you". I have had my disorder for over 10 years now but feel normal and while it is still hard to stay at social functions without the need to urgently leave, I feel I am in control. Good luck.
