Well you probably won't like my answer, but all of these types of medications affect everybody differently. If you're set on trying one, work with your prescribing doctor. If the medication is affecting you adversely, you may want to try a different one. What works for one of us, may not work so well for you.
On the SSRI front, be sure to give whatever medication you try a few weeks to kick in. Initially they tend to make your symptoms worse right out of the gate. I took Lexapro, for instance, and didn't receive full benefit from it until five weeks in. I'm glad I gave it that long, because I almost stopped taking it the symptoms were so bad. After five weeks I felt almost 100% normal. Anyway, just a couple of things to consider. Hope you find the right treatment plan for you and your condition.
Oh, and during the first couple of weeks when dealing with the worsening symptoms, I took Xanax to help with the severe panic attacks. Once Lexapro was giving me its full benefit, I no longer needed the Xanax.
