Re: XANAX users.
May 27, 2003
It has been fried into doctor's heads that Xanax is a bad drug to give, because it is highly addictive. For the year I took it at 4 times a day @.5mg, I never could understand what made doctor's so paranoid of it. I wasn't too impressed with the drug, and figured that the dosage was probably too wimpy for me to notice any ill effects. Other than putting me to sleep in all the wrong places. I went cold turkey and gave it up. Never had problems with getting off of it. (I did at the time, know of another person who took Xanax 2mg x3 a day, It did wonders for her.. )
I do believe the drug does wonders for some people, and if it kills their anxiety then they should be allowed to take it. I don't belive Doctor's should experiment on patients with the unknowns, particularly with SSRI's. I know someone has to be the victim, but it should be up to the patient, not the doctor, who decides that.

SSRI's for Anxiety? Well if they work, ZOLOFT isn't one of them. That drug is a piece of crap. I suppose if you don't mind the
irritability or the agitation it can cause, u might like it.. but what good is the drug if it causes more anxiety then what it is suppose to fix? (btw, there is a warning out on what side effects it can cause, agitation was one of them.)

benzodiazepines are used in the treatment of many conditions. Diazepam is used to help relax muscles or relieve muscle spasm. Diazepam injection is used before some medical procedures to relieve anxiety and to reduce memory of the procedure.

Chlordiazepoxide, clorazepate, diazepam, and oxazepam are used to treat the symptoms of alcohol withdrawal.

Alprazolam (Xanax)and clonazepam (Klonopin) are used in the treatment of panic disorder.

Clobazam, clonazepam, clorazepate, diazepam, and lorazepam are used in the treatment of certain convulsive (seizure) disorders, such as epilepsy.

Some benzodiazepines are used to relieve anxiety. However, benzodiazepines should not be used to relieve nervousness or tension caused by the stress of everyday life.

Some benzodiazepines are used to treat insomnia (trouble in sleeping). However, if used regularly (for example, every day) for insomnia, they usually are not effective for more than a few weeks

Benzodiazepines may be habit-forming (causing mental or physical dependence), especially when taken for a long time or in high doses. Some signs of dependence on benzodiazepines are:

A strong desire or need to continue taking the medicine.
A need to increase the dose to receive the effects of the medicine. (this is what has made doctor's paranoid about the Xanax.. but if u notice, it says MAY be habit forming. If the doctor is monitoring your condition closely, Then he should be able to recognize what the drug does for you or doesn't do..)

Withdrawal effects (for example, irritability, nervousness, trouble in sleeping, abdominal or stomach cramps, trembling or shaking) occurring after the medicine is stopped.
(which I witnessed in my father..)

I'm rambling aren't I... sorry.
