Hi- I'm going to say a little about my situation and hopefully someone can help me.

I've been taking xanax (alp razor am) since I was 18. I'm now 29 and I'm a scared. My dose started at .5mg 3x a day. I've been on that for most of the years. There were years where I went to 1 mg. 3x a day and I'm currently on .25 mgs a day 3x a day.

I'm going through hell right now. Idk if it's the anxiety, the long term xanax use or not enough xanax. I feel like I'm going crazy constantly and I'm having a hard time w day to day functioning. Here's what's making everything worse:

About 3 weeks ago I told my wife I just felt burnt out and that I could not handle all the projects I was going all at once. I need a break and I was mentally and physically exhausted. I didn't know if it was xanax or what. So I quit my side projects and started to try and relax. However for almost 2 week's I've felt like death and on top of that my face has been feeling numb every day.
The thought this could be effects of the xanax is killing me. I'm having anxiety about taking the medicine. Someone please educate me on what is the most likely going on here. Other than panic attacks and anxiety, I do not suffer from any other health issues.
Its probably addiction, it is nasty, unfortunately.

If your Anxiety is General, Social or even Obsessive I would recommend talking to your GP/doctor about trying to find away to come off Xanax and using Escitalopram. Its an SSRI but also a potent anti-anxiolytic. Its not habit forming and not addictive with little side effects (Sexual dysfuntion most common). Its got a much safer profile for long-term use and you know it helps you to just calm, see clearly and if you use it in conjunction with therapy who knows you may be able to go pill free one day!

I know people who have had benzo addictions that swear by it or its early brother Citalopram (this is not as potent and its uses for anxiety are off-label).

If you are from UK talk to your GP they will help . They may not let you take escitalopram straight away and start you on citalopram (its cheaper for them).

Good luck and I hope you start to feel better soon. :)
