... Basically, both Lexapro and Celexa are approved for the treatment of depression. However, only Lexapro is approved to treat anxiety. This does not mean that Celexa will not work for anxiety, it just means that Celexa has not been adequately studied for anxiety treatment. So I think it's just a matter of research. ... (3 replies)

... curious about this myself I pay $40 for Lexapro and the pharmacist said I should ask my doc to switch me to celexa cause its generic and much cheaper but I heard that generics only have to be 80% of the original and the pharmacist said thats a rumor but the doc told me so I dont know who to believe. ... There are many SSRIs that work for both, Zoloft, prozac, celexa, lexapro, effexor to name a few. I know when I first started having panic attacks I didn't have depression.
