Week 3 on Lexapro
Jul 21, 2005
... I called my doctor who said I should stay on the 5mg. dose for a few more weeks till I got over the side effects. I also noted that I was feeling more depressed while I was on it. ... (12 replies)
... Gotta give it at least 3 weeks to know if the dose is working. ... (6 replies)
... I've been taking 5mg Lexapro for a little over two months now. I started on this low dose to minimize side effects. However, I don't think that I am taking it at the full theraputic dose that is right for me. ... (18 replies)

... When I first discussed Lexapro with my doctor she said 10mg was the normal "theraputic" dose. Why did I not listen to her!!! I too started on the 5mg dose and felt a little relief but not much. Went to 10mg. Had to do the side effects all over again. But voila! It worked! ... (36 replies)
... I started on 5mg and after 3 weeks even though I could feel it working it was not working well enough and I realized I needed to up the dose to 10mg. Viola, much better! ... (4 replies)

... I see this type of post all the time: "I just started (lexapro/zoloft/prozac, etc.) a few days ago and I feel horrible! Should I stop?" Tons of people on this board can back this up. Yes, the first 10-14 days of taking an SSRI will make you feel WORSE. Your anxiety will be spiked. You will feel physically ill. It's horrible. This type of reaction is totally, 100%,... (6 replies)
... Natty - I made a big mistake in starting off at 5mg of Lexapro. I assumed that moving up to 10mg if necessary would be painless as my body would already be used to it. Boy was I wrong. Unfortunately ANY up-change in dosage on this drug makes you start from scratch. You feel worse than you were before for the first 10 days. Get used to the bathroom, you'll see a lot of it.... ... Went to 10mg and this dose suits me just fine. ... (5 replies)
... Natty...I tried 5mg. Some relief but not enough. I went to 10mg and that worked for me. Now for the bad news...you will have to go through the same side effects all over again. Horrible! So yup, another 3 weeks. But yes, 10mg is considered the normal starting "theraputic" dose. I went with 5mg as I tend to be hugely medication sensitive. Now I wish I would have gone... (8 replies)
... I too started out on 5mg. Way not doing it. Went to 10mg and had to experience all the same side effects all over again. But BINGO!!! Worked. I'm now on week...heck I don't know but nearing 2 months is best guess. If you feel a bit of relief on 5mg, you'll get lots more on 10mg. And yes, my doc said that 10mg to 20mg is the normal "theraputic" dose. Note: Also on... (7 replies)
... I'm still on 37.5mgs, but am struggling with it still. My doctor said we should be able to go up to 75mgs in another week and a half, but if not....then so be it. The main problem is that I'm experiencing increased anxiety, which is not an uncommon start-up side effect. That being said, if there's no improvement relatively soon, we are going to bail. I've been on numerous... (16 replies)
... And the unfortunately truth is that that if you adjust the dose of Lexapro you have to start all over again on the side effects. I did and very thankful as this dose works for me. Did first driving in torrential rain today! Yeah! ... (24 replies)
... Did you take the Effexor and the Lexapro together to do the switch? ... (4 replies)
... I have been on klonopin for a few months. My doctor slowly took me off this drug. I am now taking it on a "as need basis". I was on Lexapro for a few months as well and it was too strong for me. I came off about 2 months ago. ... (13 replies)
... I too am on Lexapro for severe depression and anxiety. ... (6 replies)
... Here's the thing about drugs. Pharaceutal companys like money. They keep inventing new drugs, primary for money. Lexapro has been highly marketed and probably Dr.'s have been given incentives to promote Lexapro. Prozac I believe is from the 1970's if I remember correctly. ... (4 replies)
