... Jane, No, I'm not getting any side effects. As Pam said, the calcium is a good idea. The calcium also helps to assimilate the magnesium better, which is one of the reasons why they normally have them combined in one tablet or dose. ... (11 replies)

... I take between 250 and 1,000 mg of magnesium a night as treatment for my IBS-constipation. If you are not having any constipation, raising the mag dose might cause diarhea (sp). If that happens, you can take it with calcium, as calcium can have a constipating effect and could balance against the mag. (Make sense?) I wouldn't go over 1,000 mg, though. And I only use that...
