... In my experience, xanax didn't help me with that. It doesn't last that long. If you take it before you go to sleep it might help you go to sleep easier, but it will wear off during the night. Didn't you get a prescription for a beta blocker? That would probably be your best bet to get that tachycardia under control. Just start out with half if you're afraid to take it. (13 replies)
... The very best thing you can do is to focus on something else - ANYTHING else. Once you get your mind off the racing heart, breathing and tight chest - it will go away much quicker. I find it next to impossible to lay down when this is happening. Some times I'll get on my stomach with a lamp and mirror and pluck my eyebrows - or my husbands... I pray a lot, or sometimes...
