I don't know much about it, but because it is an over-the-counter type medication that can be purchased at any pharmacy without a prescription - it's dosage isn't monitored by a doctor. ... Hello kidonike. I think Zoloft or any other anti-depressant only works if you take it for the long-term. If you decide to stay with Zoloft it could be up to six to eight weeks before you feel better. The side-effects you're experiencing may go away during this time or they may not at all. ... I had a ton of luck with Zoloft for GAD and Panic Disorder. As a matter of fact I just started taking it again 5 days ago. Working my way up to 50 mg. ... Definitely check out the psychiatrist at school. Maybe see if he/she will take your insurance with no copay. SSRI's can be used for anxiety. But I'm guessing what MSCAT40 meant was, until you get to therapeutic levels a benzodiazepine is also used as an adjunct. (8 replies)
