I first became aware of a crunching sound in my knees last summer. I had decided to increase the intensity of my excercise routine by adding a step to get my heart rate higher and work my legs out more. As I was doing this, I thought this is funny that the step is making this creaking noise. Upon closer examination, I determined it was coming from me. I was mortified. I called the dr. and it subsequently determined that I have osteoarthritis in my knees.

Since then I started taking a glucosamine condroitin supplement. I felt this somewhat helped the stiffness I experience upon awakening in the morning. I also walk an awful lot each day. I have never really felt any pain in my knees but I am freaked out by the noise. I bought a house 5 years ago and I have my laundry room in the basement. I have heard of the debilitating pain that comes with this diagnosis, although I have yet to experience any pain. Now I am already worried that I may have to at some point sell this house and find something with no basement. I am only 38 years old and I know I could help myself by losing weight, but so far it has been slow going and filled with setbacks. I have been worried about not being able to go up and down the stairs, let alone keep my job. I'm a worry wart!

Please tell me your experiences. If you have oa of the knee, how long was the crunching noise before you experienced pain, were stairs ever a problem,
did you find anything that slowed the progression, did losing weight stop the progression (i'm assuming that it does) anything else that helped or any advice would be appreciated, your experiences are appreciated, and you are appreciated.

Thank you very much
Hi. I have osteoarthritis in my knees and they crack a lot too. I've been taking a liquid fish oil and I think it helps a bit. I also take Bextra and that usually helps. We're in a 2 story house and I worry about having to sell it one day in the future and moving to a one story place. I had crunching noises for quite awhile before having pain. I still exercise on a treadmill, stationary bike and XL glider and probably overdue it. You're lucky that Glucosamine helps you b/c it did nothing for myself or my husband. Sitting in a whirlpool tub is very soothing and relaxing. Losing weight should help relieve the pain too. I'm a worry wort too, so I understand what you're feeling. I hope you find some relief soon!!!!
