Re: Methotrixate?
Dec 19, 2004
Methotrexate is a very old drug that has been used for treatment of RA for many years. I am 36 and have been on methotrexate since my diagnosis in 1997. Like Susan, I am also on other drugs. In women, methotrexate depletes the folic acid in your system, so it must be supplemented. Don't know if that is the case for men. His blood will be checked every 2 months for liver problems, so advise curbing alcohol intake. If he does not respond to the methotrexate alone, the doctor will probably reccomend a combination therapy like enbrel (in Susan's case) or Remicaid (my case) or Humera. Like Susan, I also take Mobic as an anti-inflammatory. It is an older drug also, whose side effects are well known. I have recently developed symptoms of drug-induced Lupus from the Remicaid, so be sure to search out all your options and look into all side effects before going with any combination therapy or new drugs. Good Luck and stay stong.
