Hi everyone.

I am a male in his late 40's with a history of Tourette's Syndrome (mostly head and neck tics - sometimes pretty severe) and cervical osteoarthritis affecting C-4 and C-5 with a bone spur. At various times (and depending on posture or activity) I can hear/feel popping, cracking, crunching and grinding noises/sensations in my neck.

My symptoms vary in type and severity depending on many factors such as posture, time of day, engaging in different activities, etc. Sometimes there are "good days" and some days are pretty rough. When I do have symptoms they can include...

1) Weird feelings in my head (ie; I feel spaced-out, dazed, foggy, "pressure", etc).
2) Pain and/or sensation of numbness or mild buzzing/vibration at the base of my skull.
3) Numbness on the edge of my right foot.
4) Random aches and pains in various parts of my upper body that usually linger for a day or two and then go away (today it's the right side of my rib cage and toward the back).
5) A "bugged out"/strange feeling in my eyes, un-focused vision, etc (had this off and on for years so not sure it's even related).
6) Mild headache-like feeling but not really even a headache. Sometimes I get stabbing pains on just one side of my head (had this for years).
7) Sometimes I feel slightly off-balance or like my legs are just a bit wobbly.
8) Various other sensations that come and go like prickling, tingling, goose bumps, etc.

I woke up one morning about a year ago and my right hand and arm were almost completely useless. I couldn't even hold onto a cup of coffee. Sometimes I wake up with the top of my scalp completely numb or have this prickly needle-like sensation on the top of my head. Other times, I wake up and my neck is sore for awhile. Once in awhile it feels like there is very mild pressure on the front of my throat/neck. I have other aches/pains/sensations but I can't rememeber them all. I'm afraid to take Nsaids because I read they can cause heart attacks, strokes and sudden death. Not sure what else I can take.

I have other issues like GERD, Gastritis, IBS, Lactose Intolerance, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Panic Attacks, OCD, ADD, Chronic Sinusitis, Allergic Rhinitis, a deviated septum, etc.

I'm currently take Z-Pack for a sinus infection, Prevacid, Atenolol, Atarax and Ativan.

Over the years, I've had a great number of tests (boxes and boxes full). More recently, I've had a brain and neck MRI, Extensive (I mean VERY extensive blood work), A full exam by an Opthamologist, a full exam by a Neurologist and about a week ago I went to the ER and got checked out there by the supervising doctor.

I would be interested in knowing if there is anyone out there like me with the same symptoms and/or going through the same circumstances. Anyone who can relate actually. I feel very depressed and alone and just need someone with the same issues to talk with.

Thank you, Steve
Hi Steve!
You forgot to mention what blood work/ MRI showed and if showed anything at all.
I have bad neck problem; between OA, RA and benign tumor pressing on C-level I get neck pain very often. If this would be just neck pain involved, would be easier to handle but like we all know, it causes severe headache, I get them so bad that can't pick my head upj off pillow.
Than ringing in the ears; very loud to the point it wakes me up from sleep. I can swear I hear the noise/ringing in reality, but my hubby who sleeps next to me doesn't hear anything. ;-)
Pins and needles down to my arms/hands and fingers; numb feeling and when it flairs - I cant type at all.
Double vision, dizziness and nausea, lost of balance.
Pretty bad pain in between shoulder blades.
Not be able to swallow.

While your symptoms may relate to your neck problems, it sounds like it can be something else too. I am not sure if all the symptoms related to your neck.
Please let me know what your testing showed, very hard to talk not knowing the details.
Steve, you mentioned your other health issues. I dont think you should worry too much about these ones since I believe every other person has them more or less. The main thing is to have a DR who gives you med to help with symptoms.

You can come here to talk to us; we will be happy to help you and talk to you dear heart. You are not alone here, for sure. We are here to help each other, share our pains and aches and learn something too.
So welcome!

Thanks so much for the very thoughtful and detailed input!.

I don't remember all of the tests I had or the results but I'll do my best. Many of the tests listed below are ones that I have had done multiple times so I'll just list the ones I've had done within the last few years...

* CBC w/Diff (always comes back normal)
* Thyroid Panel (always comes back normal)
* Vitamin B12 ( (always comes back normal)
* Comprehensive Metabolic Profile (always comes back normal)
* ANA (always comes back normal)
* PSA (always comes back normal)
* Blood Glucose (always comes back normal)
* Head/Neck MRI (head=normal, Neck osteaoarthritis w/bone spur - C4/C5)
* Endoscopy/Colonoscopy (several non-malignant polyps removed)
* Opthamology exam (Normal except left eye is 20/30)
* Neurological exam (a HUGE number of blood tests - all normal)

I've had a LOT more tests than these. It would be impossible to list or even remember them all. It's interesting that you mention "double vision" because while I don't have that one in particular, I have, at times had "episodes" of some kind where if I stare at an object while moving my head to the left or right I see a double image of that object. I've asked the Neuro, Optho and many other docs about this and noone can explain it. I have it now and I've had it as far back as about 8 years ago.

Thats about all I can think of at the moment. I'm thrilled to hear from someone who can relate. Thanks again!.
