Prednisone only works well to help with my cough part of the time. I have had problems with a chronic cough on and off for the last several years and it really affects my quality of life at times. My doc has explained to me that there are several main causes of a chronic cough:
[LIST]
[*]asthma
[*]allergies
[*]post nasal drip
[*]acid reflux

I have problems with all of these items and typically have to figure out which is flaring up since they all have the same symptoms for me. Also, sometimes when one flares up, it sets off one of the others. My doc encourages me to return as often as I need until I find out what treatment works at the time. Often I have to adjust treatments in each area.

When you have been sick with a cough, sometimes there is a residual cough that persists after you no longer have the original illness. For this, only time really seems to help.

Pertussis (Whooping Cough) is also on the rise. Your childhood immunizations don't last into adulthood for this. Antibiotics and waiting 100 days was the best I could do when I caught it last year.
