Welcome to the board. A couple things come to mind. You might want to get a flexion/extension x-Ray to check for spondylolisthesis. This is a condition where one vertebra slips over the top of the adjacent vertebra. It can result in instability and can lead to things like a pinched nerve which can cause the radiating pain such as sciatic pain. It can be a result of injury or degenerative changes, or it can be congenital. Sometimes it can be so subtle that doctors don't spot it on MRI, but the x-ray often reveals it.

Another possibility would be an issue in the sacroiliac joint or joints. The sacral area is beneath the lumbar spine. I would think these joints might be stressed by your sport.
