I've had every test imaginable with negative results except for lumbar spine (extensive labs, spinal tap, MRIs, EMG, Biopsy for Small Fiber Neuropathy, more).Symptoms are chronic progressive paresthesia that started in big toe of one foot, spread to both feet, up legs and settling in lower spine. In last year inability to wear shoes or socks and in past month severe progression--severe foot and calf spasms daily, inability to walk more than a few yards without legs feeling like they will collapse. Saw neurosurgeon last week who recommended laminectomy at L4 L5 along with fusion due to synovial cyst and facet disease (referred to him by neurologist who thinks all symptoms stem from lumbar stenosis/spondylolisthesis). 2nd opinion yesterday (the first surgeon's superior)--he said stenosis/spondylolisthesis not severe enough to cause my symptoms, putting me back with no answers after 6 years. He did say he could be wrong and ordered more x-rays and recommended lumbar steroid shot to see if that helped my symptoms. He wants to compare x-rays from March with yesterday looking for "Slippage." Is subluxation the same as slippage? I had flexion/extension x-rays; in March the report stated: "Grade 1 anterolisthesis of L4 on L5. Slight narrowing of L5 S1 interspace. Degenerative change in apophyseal joints L4 L5 and L5 S1. Impression: Degenerative changes of lumbar spine. Yesterday's lumbar x-rays: Mild disc space narrowing thourghout the lumbar spine. 8 mm subluxation of L4 on L5. Moderate facet sclerosis present from L3 to S1. Impression: Moderate degenerative disc changes throughout lumbar spine and moderate lower lumbar facet arthropathy. Grade 1 anterolisthesis of L4 on L5 unchanged." So does this appear that I have increased "slippage" from March? The subluxation was not in any reports (MRIs, X-rays) until yesterday. Will hear from dr. next week but desperate for answers--thank you!
