I have been diagnosed with arthritis in 3 disks in my lower back. I have chronic low back pain and sciatica in my left leg/hip. In the last several weeks I have noticed both of my feet tingling or feeling numb when I sit down, lay down, or even stand. It occurs almost right away and not after being in the same position for a long time. If I straighten my legs out it gets better but comes back quickly in the next position. Several times, I have had the feeling like chill bumps in my right calf area but I'm not cold. It lasts for about 10 or 15 seconds and then goes away. My dr., a physical medicine md (my second opinion), said I did not need surgery and didn't have signs of any nerve damage. I've also seen an ortho who said the same. Could I have some nerve damage they are unaware of or is this caused by something else?

More info. I have had an MRI (in Dec. 2003), x rays, blood work all done. Bloodwork was normal and xrays as well. MRI showed the wearing of the disks. I was prescribed Celebrex which did nothing. Now, I don't take anything but muscle relaxers when needed. I pulled a muscle in the upper back lifting my 3 yr old in the swing at the end of Feb. and was prescribed Robaxin. Upper back is better but still there. I start PT on April 5 so not sure if that will help or not. I dislocated the tailbone having my son in Jan. 2002. Went thru Pt for that. Ortho dr said it was un-related to back pain I have now. Tailbone is better but occasionally hurts. Xray showed slight shifting but nothing that would cause concern, he says.

Any help you can offer is greatly appreciated. I see most or all of you have more experience with all of this. I'm just beginning this journey, unfortunately.

Thanks! :)

You could always ask a Neurologist for an EMG. HUrts like He** but it could answer your question.
