Back Problems Message Board

Back Problems Board Index

Hello Amy-
Just so you know you're not the only one (as you can tell from the other posts!)- I'm a 27 year old female who has had lower back pain with bilateral leg pain for 1 1 /2 years now and I never had any injury or anything just a slow insidious aching and then nerve pain. It took them this long to even truly diagnose my L5-S1 tear and I swear many docs thought I was kookoo or something. It was very frustraing. Only the discogram confirmed it. I have heard it said that many young women do "come down" with back problems of some sort. In fact my ortho surgeon who did some knee surgery on my about 10 years ago told me teenage girls get knee problems and then back problems when they are in their 20's. Who knows. Back problems do not seem to discriminate.
I COMPLETELY know what you mean about feeling like an 80 year old though. I got married about a month before my back problems started and it's been awful. I feel so badly for my husband who has been so wonderful and understanding. I had to quit my job (as I was commuting a long distance on the train and it became much too uncomfortable) and my daily activities are so limited. I can't even eat a meal in a restaurant without standin gup and walking around several times. I literally have days where I say - like an 80 year old- "It just isn't a "good day" I don't think I can do my errands today." UGH. I KNOW I am not the only one who does this!
Oh well. Just know you're not alone!! These boards provide a TON of support though and somehow it makes you feel better knowing you are not alone. I am scheduled to see sopmeone on Jan 15th to see if I'm a good IDET candidate. Although with the slow healing comments I've seen on the boards I don't think I'm looking forward to it too much. I will be positive though.

Hope you are on the mend or they have a good idea of how to "fix" you. And don't forget to take care of YOU- I know everyone in the healthcare field never takes care of themselves as much as they take care of everyone else! ha ha ha.
