Hi

It is "NOT" true that doctors will not give you narcotic pain killers for your back pain,

"They Will".

Can you please explain..

1 what kind of pain your in, level 1-10 scale?
2.what is causing the pain, where it's located?
3.what medications are you currently taking for pain?

These questions will help us to help you..

Until you answer it will be difficult to say what the docs might tell you, it also matters what kind of pain your in, if a narcotic pain med is needed. Just rememeber to "NEVER" ask a doctor for a specific medication, alway let them advise you on something to try and let them know either..

1. OK / see if it works / if it doesnt go back and let them know.

2. I have tried that before and it doesnt work

3. I have a bad reaction to that med

You don't want to be looked at like a drug seeker, I am not saying you are, but docs are weird like that, ask anyone here. Just be honest and up front with your pain, what bothers you, what you have tried, what works, what doesnt, and what your goals are, like wanting to have a better quality of life..

No one should have to suffer, and most of us here have either fought for that ability and won, or are currently struggling still to find answers and the right med/doctor. Sooner or later all of us hopefully will be in the winner category, getting the relief they deserve and need.

Hope this helps..

* 27 years old, male
*Chronic upper back pain for about 6 years, recently getting really bad, really stiff in the morning takes forever to get going, lasts all day everyday.
*Crackling sounds from rib cage area across upper and middle back when stretching.
* Pain, tightness and burning all day long, usually ranges from a 4 through 9 depending on the day and how my body wants to react. Usually it's at least a 6/7 all day recently, used to be an annoying 3/4 all day, which I lived with but hated.
*Problem areas are mainly around breastbone area of chest, across shoulder blades, dead center upper back, upper shoulders and back of neck. Feels as if it's muscles and bones/joints, possibly ribs.
*Muscles spasms, had a couple that were severe enough to go to ER, felt like I was having a heart attack, pain radiated through upper back to chest area.
*Taking Vicodin 5/500 Soma 350 and Celebrex 200, which also helps somewhat but not to where I am not bothered by the pain, burning, tightness ect..
*Chiropractic 3 years, PT on and off again, all of which produces results that do not last for more than the day I have them.
*Can't remember any trauma I had that would have caused all this. Don't understand how it's getting worse.
*Can't really do anything, lifting, heavy physical ect.. Try and walk and stretch when I can.
*Still undiagnosed and waiting

Hi,

I am sorry to hear about the BS you had to go through today  . I swear it's just not right when we can't even get the help we desperately deserve. I would either do 1 of two things , which are very similar.

I would make another appointment in a week with the same doctor and tell them the stretches are not/or are working, tell them the aspirin is NOT working at all, you can't sleep, get around freely and are miserable all day, it's affecting your quality of life. You don't think you should have to suffer and "What Can WE DO for the pain? Obviously aspirin is not working!" Demand you would like further testing done to find out what the problem is. If nothing works and they keep you running through the same hoops, not offering more tests, not offering pain medication based on the status of your pain levels, I would MOVE ON! Find a new doctor immediately, change your primary doctor, it's not that hard of a process.

OR....

2. Just forget it, if you see no future in this doctor, just change immediately. Once you change and hopefully find a doctor that helps you, write your old doctor a letter stating how diappointed you were with their treatment, and hopefully they can learn to treat patients of all ages with the same level of respect. Tell them your new findings and wish them success because they need all the help they can get.

And finally, I would continue to doctor hunt till you find one willing to help you. I'm not talking about doc shopping for meds! I'm talking about relief, quality of life, treatments and finally a diagnosis.

Sorry about ranting on.. this subject just really irritates me.. I have been there.. I'm just finally on my way after 6 years to finding what's wrong with me.. Don't get down on yourself, there is a doctor somewhere that will help you!. Good luck and keep us posted ..
