Hi Simone

You might want to do a 'search' in the search section of this back board using 'fusion'. There are some current threads going on fusion & many in the archives. Sounds like you had some extensive work done that definitely takes time to heal. Gentle exercise is important though, to aid in the healing process as I'm sure you know. I personally had a micro-discectomy on L5-S1 & am just 5 mos post-op.

Have you considered asking one of your docs for a script for some gentle physical therapy? Many insurances pay for it. My doctor didn't suggest physical therapy, but I felt like I was at a stand-still in my recovery process - noticed many posters on the L5-S1 Hemilaminectomy thread (the orig - not part 2) - had PT & were doing better & better. It's a bit of work - but you can tell them when/if you think it's too much - it's not unmanageable & very rewarding. I now personally agree w/the concept of strengthening back & abdominal muscles to keep the spine aligned & from having too much strain during sitting, running, lifting, etc. After several wks of PT, it just takes a few exercises per day at home & walking- to keep up the good results. Of course, proper body mechanics will be important from now on. (I've been doing PT 3 X's a wk now starting week 3 - & am just now noticing less discomfort) Also, on that thread, there are some post-op-micro-disc posters who had numbness &/or pain in their feet pre & post op & their PT is suggesting specific exercises for the feet.

What has your Doctor said about the continued pain? Have they suggested a repeat MRI just to see how everything's looking now? Great that you are more comfortable than pre-surgery!

Good luck & take care!

Laura :)
