Tony & Tony's Wife  !

Want to jump in & say I agree with everything sweet Karen said. An MRI with & without contrast - from upper spine to coccyx/tail-bone area sounds like the best test for now. Xrays aren't very revealing - won't generally show disc herniations, etc.

Have you found that ice (or a flattened frozen bag of peas - just lay back gently on it) for about 10-15 minutes several x's daily - over her shirt in the area that's painful has helped? 'Icing' the back this way helps with internal inflammation - which can be a cause of back & sciatic pain down thru the hip/leg.

It would be great if she could first get on insurance to help with these costs. The MRI's are expensive, & then if necessary, there's the cost of surgery. Not to scare you, but the important thing is to not let back problems progress to permanent damage (nerve damage, incontinence). Whatever the cost - we need to do whatever's necessary to take care of the one back we have!

Also, as she probably already knows, twisting, bending over from the waist, lifting - are all no-no's with scoliosis & all back problems. Hopefully the Physical therapist showed her the 'log roll' for getting out of bed - & various other 'keeping your back straight' maneuvers. If not, I'd give them a call & ask them to
send it to you (or set it aside so you can pick it up).

Again, Karen gave you great advice! Hope "Mrs.Tony" & you get to the source & relief of these back troubles soon!
