Penny,

First of all Welcome!

I am sorry to hear about the pain you're in....and the frustration of not knowing what is causing it! :( That's sometimes worse, in my opinion!

As for the nerve blocks, I have had 5 and only the last two did ANYTHING for me. Every person is different. There have been many people who had them and it 'bought' them a year of not having surgery. My first two did absolutely nothing - they were Right Transforaminal. My 3rd was lumbosacral - it DID numb my tailbone for 2 days....then pain was back. My last 2 were caudal injections performed @ Cleveland Clinic - and they have enabled me to sit for longer periods of time...so, I consider them to be successful. Unfortunately, I have other 'issues' ie torn disc - that are causing the worst pain and doc says steroid inj won't help it.

So...each person's experience w/ them is different. You may get great relief....or not. I was to the point that I would try anything. But....I don't have other health issues. As someone else posted, you should really look into the MS thing. I am not familiar w/ the disease so have no idea. Hopefully, your doc would not steer you wrong...but, to be safe, I would research everything you can find....then decide if you want the injection.

As for the procedure itself, my first 3 were no big deal. It only takes about 15 minutes. The 1st needle stings a little w/ lidocaine - numbing. I always got some sedation for relaxation. My 4th - the caudal - Was pure hell....but, I have a displaced coccyx and the inflammation has been there for almost 3 yrs....so, I am SURE that's why it was so bad. :(The 2nd caudal wasn't nearly as bad...only felt pressure.

Sorry to go on so much...but, I hope I've answered some of your questions! If not, ask away! Good luck. Let us know what you decide! :)

Karen
