I recently had a discectomy in my lower back L4 L5, I am not having the greatest time right now I can only hope it gets better, before the surgery I had no feeling in my right foot and toes bad headaches, just in alot of pain, I can't imagine what it must feel like to have one in your neck, as far as I can tell, with a herniated disc it depends on how much nerve damage is going on inside....my herniated disc was pinching all the nerves in my right leg, causing pain, icy tingles, and at times it felt like my leg, butt, and lower back was on fire, now after the surgery it feels much worse so I really can't say if this has been the best choice yet it has been a little less than two weeks since my procedure, so it may be too soon to tell, my surgery went great however, it wasn't as bad as I thought it was gonna be...my docter was great! my disc was so badly ruptured that he had to go deeper and remove the whole thing so now I have no cushion between my vertebre....not fun.....my surgery was supposed to last an hour and a half......it took three, not including the hour in the recovery room......so I guess what I am trying to say is try as many other options as you can before consenting to surgery......not that the surgery I had was bad! but it is painful, and you need to remember that surgery on herniated discs is NOT a cure, just a remedy to help alleiviate SOME of the pain not all, you will forever have limitations on what you can do....sorry for rambling I just wanted to give you as much information that I could to help you understand better about what is going on........Hope that I helped if you have any more questions let me know okay?

Amy
