Back Problems Message Board

Back Problems Board Index

Thank you everyone. You all were very helpful.
I've never had a back problem in my life until now. age 44.
How can one distinguish if it's a muscular problem compared to a disk or bone problem?
I have this lump near the spine, as if it's lymph nodes. it feels rubbery and solid and moves when you push on it. but it's very painful when pushed on.
my b/f is trying to help me with the symtoms. he put on hot compresses for about 20 minutes, then rubbed in over the counter ointment for back aches, and rubbed in some sesame oil.
It felt good at the moment but when I got up this morning, it hurts worst and I'm achier.
there isn't any sharp pains at all. it's this horrible aching feeling as if my spine is bending in the upper back between my shoulder blades. It also feels as if any moment, it's going to get stuck and I won't beable to move. My b/f feels it's from sitting at the computer and typing. the thing is, I've sat at my computer before comfortably and have never had back problems. why now? and it's not going away like I thought it would if I gave it time. I even mentioned to my gp it hurts and she didn't say a thing.
It started aching in the lower back if I stand up too long. that's when I told my dr.last yr. she orderd an x-ray and it's not showing anything.
My sister had scoliosis at a young age back in the 60's . had to stay in a body cast for almost a yr. on her back. she couldn't go to school so she was the first in the county or state to have a box set up in her room to listen and learn what was going on in her class room. Everyone in my town, the older people mostly, remember my sister because of this. you should see the scars down her back. like frankenstein.
then when my mother was in her 40's she started bending over when she walked, and her knees bent in to support her. she never went to drs. she's from the old country and healed herself if possible. Including us children. we never had bandaides in the house, only mercurochrome for cuts, and ripped up clean sheets used for bandages.
No such thing as antibiotics given to us kids. not because we were poverty stricken, but because that's just the way my parents did things.
I never found out what my had. We knew it wasn't arthritis like we thought it was becuase when she fell down in her room and broke her hip, the bone surgeon yelled at us siblings, in the waitng room about her having some bone disease and that it's not arthritis. he doens't know how we tried to urge our mom to go to the dr. but never would. as if it was OUR fault! geesh.
Mom passed away this past December of 03 and I'll never know what the disease was.
All my freinds used to say, "what's wrong with your mom?" I was embarrased to walk out on to the avenue with her to go pick up food. I was very young at the time but remember that well.
Is this happening to me too, what happened to her? I'll never know. My own dr. is not listening to me so I guess I have to shop around myself for a dr. who studies ailments of the spine. I don't need referrals with the type of insurance I have.
That's why I came to this board. I'm confused and frightened because I feel as if my spine is never going to be right again. I can feel it changing and twisting. I'm getting too old before my time. somethings not right. I can feel it.
I'm known for writting very long posts. thanks for being patient.

Lintek:
Is the lump in your upper back??
Could be a cyst or the lymph nodes.
Try ice. It might be inflammation.
He might be right about the computer. There is a huge new percentage of people who are experiencing back pain due to computers as well as TV.

Have you tried stretching? You might be freaking yourself out because of your mom's condition and need to step back, stretch, walk, do some gentle exercises, and only sit at the computer for twenty minutes at a time.

The massage with the oil is good because it releases and moves the toxins away from the area.

Stressing out wil make it worse.

Ever since the HIPPA was put into place, there is no way to get someone's records without a court order unless they sign. She she has passed away, it will be even harder. You might want to ask around the family for information. Her doctor can't give it to you. BUT, if you know the exact date that she passed away and what county she was in, if there was an autopsy, you can get that report from the coroner. The report lays out pretty much everything.

good luck and go for a walk :)
