What Now??
Dec 3, 2004
I've been reading these posts for some time now and have learned a great deal and appreciate the friendly attitude. Here's my situation, I'll try to keep this short. In Oct. 99 while playing golf I ruptured my L4-L5 disc and had a diskectomy in March 2000. I was OK until this summer. My back slowly started getting worse and by August 22 I was hopitalized by my family doc due to major back and sciatic pain. I was in the hospital for 5 days on Morphine and had an MRI during that time. MRI showed advanced DDD at L4-L5 and the disc was ruptured. Had another diskectomy on 9-9-04 and was doing OK for a couple of weeks. The same NS did both procedures, in 2000 and 2004. I went to see him on 11-3-04 for a check up and told him about my pain, stiffness and crooked back. The NS said that it is just scar tissue and told me to keep taking my Skelaxin and increased my scrip for Percocet. I went to my family doc on Wed. and he ordered another MRI, since I'm still having problems. MRI was Thurday and showed the advanced DDD at L4-L5, but also stated that there is a small residual free disc fragment enveloped by the epidural scarring anterior to the thecal sac. Family doc now is working on me seeing different NS for a second opinion. I was told by the doctor's nurse that the new NS might look at me but won't touch me until after a year from my previous surgery. Does this really happen? If so what do I do until then? Will this disc fragment go away or what? Is fusion the next option? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Sorry for being so long!
