We had the same surgery I think....did you have pedicle screws, rods and a cage?

At 3 weeks I was in a deep depression, wondering if I would ever ambulate without pain and be independent again. Driving at 3 weeks? NOT ME. They told me no driving until 6 weeks. At 3 weeks I was having not only post op back pain but also extreme nerve pain down bilateral legs. I had sleepless night ontop of sleepless night and thought I was losing it. In addition, I was totally undermedicated.

After getting the med situation straightened out and beginning a very strigent walking program things began to improve greatly. At 6 weeks, I began to have hope and was feeling so much better.

I am now at 8 weeks post op and am finally glad I had the surgery. I saw my surgeon today for my 2 month post op visit and got the okay to wean off my back brace, begin swimming (verses wading in the pool), squatting down, and even increase the amount I can lift to 20 lbs. I am back to work but only 4-6 hours a day.

Had you asked me at 3 weeks if I felt there was hope for recovery from this very painful surgery, I would have said NO. But the last 3 weeks made a huge difference.

Be patient, walk as much as you can and take your life back gradually.

Best of luck,
