I had a laminectomy with fusion and instrumentation on 6/19/06 - 3 levels. I started walking as soon as I got home, just up and down my driveway 2-3 times a day. I kept increasing until now I am walking several miles a day. Yes, it is painful to walk and I discussed it with the doctor and his response proved to be true. It hurts my back some while I am walking, but it has made a huge decrease in the residual bilateral nerve pain I was having in my legs. Also, the more I walk, the more energy I seem to have and the more determination to do some other things like squats several times a day. I hate admitting that the doctor was right because I always believed rest healed things. On the contrary, moving around seems to heal things faster in my experience.

Best of luck and get movin!
