WHOA! I just looked up that condition:

[I]Costochondritis is an inflammation of the cartilage that connects a rib to the breastbone (sternum). It causes sharp pain in the costosternal joint — where your ribs and breastbone are joined by rubbery cartilage. Pain caused by costochondritis may mimic that of a heart attack or other heart conditions.[/I]

This sounds exactly like what happens to me sometimes when I take a deep breath. I have to take short little breaths for a minute or so until it subsides, but it generally goes away almost immediately. It's very scary though.

Edited to add: It only happens a couple times a year, too.
