To give you the best advice, it would be helpful to have more information:

1. How long have you had this problem?
2. Do you have pain that radiates down one or both legs (sciatica)?
3. Do you know what caused this, such as an injury or lifting something?
4. Did it come on suddenly or gradually?
5. Are there certain positions or activities that cause the pain to be worse?

Once you respond to these questions we will be happy to give you our opinions on what to do next.

1) Iv had the problem on and off for the last year-iv always had problems with my back on and off, but have also lost the arches in my feet, so being flat footed affects my back a lot, something which the physio is working on at the moment with me
2) yes i sometimes get pains down my legs but i think its an overflow of my back pain!
3) i work in a nursery, so it could have been many things which have done it, but on both accounts when its been really bad theres been nothing particular i remember having done to make it any worse
4) like i said, iv had the pain for a long time on and off but its come on suddenly and usually does
5) i cant seem to get comfy in any position-lying down seems to be the best but it takes a while to settle myself. driving makes it alot worse, so does sitting upright in a chair, and standing!

Thanks
