I have herniated thoracic discs. Chest pain has more to do with the thoracic rather than cervical. I get wrap around pain that feels like a heart attack, breaks me out in a sweat, feel like I am going to pass out, sometimes throw up. Lot of burning in upper and mid back. Only way to really find out is have a thoracic MRI.
Some people just have burning type pain with herniated thoracic discs. In my case, I have both burning and the wrap around pain. Chest pain that feels like a heart attack at times, not all the time. They say it is rare for thoracic discs to herniate and is "usually" caused from trauma, such as a car accident, fall, etc. Kind of takes your breath away, hard to breathe, this type of Pain? Have you had any injuries that you can think of? I have two herniated thoracic discs, T11-T12 and T12-L1. So far I am avoiding surgery and they are pressing on my spinal cord. Probably not a wise thing to do but I am too scared of thoracic surgery. I have had one lumbar fusion and that was quite enough...
I don't know anything about costochondritis so can't comment on that. Maybe you should request a MRI to make sure.
