Hi I have some concerns and am hoping to get some insight from other people here. I had a microdiscectomy on l5/s1 almost a year ago (august 23, 2011) and I had immediate relief from the surgery but about 4 months out I started getting the sciatic pain again, not all the time but every so often. Now I am in almost constant pain ranging from about a 3 to a 10 on pain level scale. Sometimes to the point where I am in complete pain to where I cannot do anything for days. I went to get out of the shower about 3 months ago morning of my appointment for follow up and I slipped but caught myself before falling, was fine and felt ok but by the time I got to the docs I couldnt stand up straight and was in intense pain. They said I probably just strained my muscles it will be fine but this pain is not going away completely, I have ok days and bad days. Could I have slipped the disk again? When I slipped I didnt fall but did tense up as I grabbed the wall lol. I am going in for another MRI on the 23rd of this month and was wondering if I did slip it could or would it still show even if I have days of pain that is like at a 3....? Also how often is another surgery needed after a first surgery? Im scared to death of another one! I also read on here people have slipped disks because of the constipation issue after they got home form all the meds. I was so constipated from the meds and I know I strained to try and relieve myself right after surgery. I wonder if I messed myself up! Also another question... I am so delicate when it comes to pain meds, I have done the 30 minutes after anti nausea meds are taken or paired with the pain meds and I still cannot manage to keep any pain meds down no matter what the dose of the pain med is. I threw up constantly for about a week after surgery could I have done something when throwing up? Im so lost right now... I have pain where it feels like my skin is ripping apart, or where it feels like somebody is poking with a hot pin in my back, and I have leg pain also.... Somebody please give me some insight on anything I wrote!
Hi, I'm in a similar state after 8 months. Same joint, same op. I've had an MRI and the consultant says it looks good. My skin burns, my backside aches, my lumbar aches, i get burning in my ankle, and i have what feels like a really tight area about 3 inches above my wound. I'm assuming it's all linked and is referred pain from something near the operation area as this ain is very different to the 'dead leg' pain I had before the op. I've been referred to a pain management dr and will see him in a few weeks. I'm taking 6 gabapentin per day. I don't think they are helping, but am scared to come off them in case it makes me worse. Normal pain killers have no or little affect on nerve pain. My consultant said there was scar tissue, but that he doesn't think that is a problem as everyone has it. Please keep me posted with your progress as it sounds like we have very similar problems.

I will for sure! This pain is so miserable, and I don't think people (most doctors) really understand just how bad the pain is.... I called my doctor since I was having issues ( constipation for 2 weeks no matter what I try) and pain so bad I am in tears and can't walk.) I was told lower back issue do not cause constipation and they would try and get my MRI done earlier than Monday.... I asked her if the disc is in fact slipped again what would my options be to just do a fusion and call it good? She said well we are a very conservative office so we will do conservative measures first for a while before you ever go to surgery again. Well low and behold the doc never called back the next day.... ( this happens regularly) so now I guess I wait for a few more days to get my MRI done and see what happens.
