I had a microdiscectomy at L5/S1 13 weeks ago. I had previously had some hip pain that was being attributed to my weight (probably true so I took steps to fix that). Since my surgery I've had a different kind of hip pain that is limiting my mobility again and I've just started back into my work outs so I don't want this to delay me further.
This time it hurts from my waist down through my hips and butt. The pain makes it hard to sit up, sometimes even to roll over in bed. It's not real back pain and it's not nerve pain but hurts the most at night and in the morning. PM&R thinks something like arthritis, but hasn't been extraordinarily helpful with this. Getting out of bed in the morning is hard and my legs will often collapse under me in the first hour or so that I'm awake and mobile.
I'm hoping that someone will have some suggestions for things that might help me out. I'm swimming and walking, increasing the distance for each at most once a week, sometimes going 2 weeks before increasing if I find a distance challenging. I'm walking every day and swimming 3 times a week. My insurance won't cover PT so I'm hoping to avoid that, although I may get an evaluation and then go once a month or so for more exercises.
Thanks!
