Back Problems Message Board

Back Problems Board Index

My name is Christie, and I am new to the board. I'm a 44 yr old female, and new to the message board. I've had lower back pain for the last 10 years. I recently had an MRI done, and it revealed nerve root compression at L4/L5 & L5/S1& thecal sac, displacement, potrusion with mass effect on L5 root, bone spur contacts caudal aspect of L5 nerve root, central and lateral stenosis, 3 herniations, annular tears & fissure, mild retrolisthesis & spondylolthesis.

I have thrown my back out several times in the last 10 years, but on 9/22/12 it was different. It started out as sciatica, outer left thigh stabbing, burning. & numbness. It has now progressed to both legs, calves, feet (also heels), groin, pressure burning & stabs from private area to rectum. I literally drag my legs around when I walk, and have to use furniture, walls & counters to support my body. Once in a while, I have some good hours out of the day, where I can get around OK, and pain level reduces to a 3-4. That's when I stay off my feet for several hours.

Lately, I've had trouble urinating. I get sharp pains while urinating, and has a slow stream. I get intermittent prickly pain & spasms in the rectal area. No trouble with BM. I have been in PT for 7 weeks, naproxen, exercises, Norco, etc with no improvement.

I have an appointment with a neurosurgeon on 12/6,and Cabot understand why it takes this long to be seen. My doc tried to get me in sooner, but no luck. I'm very frustrated I have to deal with this pain, and the limitations. I also fear I will get the runaround. I just want this fixed, so I can be normal again. I don't know what to expect.

Has/have anyone experienced this? Any thoughts, support, or advice would be appreciated.

Thank you.
