Back Problems Board Index

Hello All,

I haven't posted for a few weeks, but wanted to note to the many people who have been supportive and offered advice to me on this board, as well as those of you suffering from pain from a herniated disc....that I have just seen my surgeon for my final 3 month post-op visit after microdiscectomy on L5/S1. I had debilitating sciatica, that got worse with each new episode. I had 4 injections, loss strength in my leg, and developed numbness in the back of leg from the top of the thigh to the bottom of my foot, the exact path of the S1 nerve

While this has been more than a year-long ordeal, and I lost my job (and that creates a whole new stressful situation) I can say that I wake every morning so grateful that I walk without pain, that I can curl up on the couch and watch a movie, that I can sit for longer than 30 seconds, that I can drive, that I have regained all the strength in my left leg, and I am no longer afraid to move. I still have numbness, but I am able to exercise quite a bit now....and move on with my life.

I am not perfect, but I am so much better. I remember how terribly desperate for relief I felt, and I turned to this board often to read experiences of others and find rays of hope.

I am posting today so that those of you who are experiencing similar issues will not give up. While surgery is always a last resort, and it came down to that for me....I am in this moment, so grateful for the patience offered to me by my doctors, my friends and family, people on this board, and the very skillful hands of my surgeon.

I wish everyone here pain free days ahead!!!;)
