I sleep on my stomach and I know it's bad for me. I tried sleeping on my side or back but I just can't do it!!! When I try to sleep on my back, it feels like I am in the dentist chair getting my teeth cleaned and I'm stuck for until it's over. It's so much more comfortable on my stomach. Now my neck is acting up. I went to the chiropractor and do feel better, but he obviously tells me sleeping on my stomach is the worst thing I can do. How the hec am I supposed to adjust. I've been sleeping that way all my life and I am 38 yrs old!!!

What is wrong with me?! Is anyone out there in the same boat as I am? If so, how did you eventually learn to sleep on your back or side?

Thank you in advance!
I sleep mostly on my side but use a body pillow you know the big ones that you can put your leg over and it goes all the they go all along your body.. I can't sleep unless I have a pillow to put my legs over and to hug close to allmost like sleeping on your stomach..try that maybe it will help your neck.
Thank you both. That is interesting.
What comprises a "good" sleep position is to what extent the natural curves of the spine are supported. There is no good way to sleep on your stomach unless you put a pillow under your hips/lower abdomen area. Otherwise you are spending hours at a time with your spine hyper-extended.

If you try sleeping on your back, place pillows under the knees. If on the side, which is "best," you want a small pillow between the knees...idea being that it keeps the top leg in alignment, (same height) uwith the shoulder. Some place pillows behind them to keep from rolling over. It actually does take some practice to find the right combination and to teach yourself and convince yourself that this is comfy!

Let me add that I think the mistake many people make is in using a pillow between the legs that is too big. Most pillows are too over-stuffed. This just makes it uncomfortable. Same goes for many of the lumbar pillows people buy.
