Hi everybody,

I just found out that I have a bugling disc in L5 S1. Was wondering about the storied injections?

Also I'm in the process of doing testing for my upper spine. about 7 months ago I had a band show up for about 5 days of tingling and burning across where my bra line would be. Numbness/tingling in other areas of my spine. I have pain in both shoulders. mainly right(my right shoulder hurts bad). I've had tingling in hands and feet since over a year now(give or take) But I'm sure that the bugling disc in L5 S1 is causing the tingling and other neuro symptoms in my legs and feet. I've had a MRI of lumber and was also wondering why the EMG didn't pick it up. Had MRI of brain and it was Normal. Any advice would be great! Waiting for X-rays results and upper EMG isn't until next week along with follower up appt with the Neurologists the day after to talk about treatment for the L5 S1 Bulging disc and to push for MRI of upper spine!

Thank you,
Renee
Welcome to the board. If you are not under the care of either an orthopedic spine surgeon or a neurosurgeon, I would suggest a consultation with one or one for each specialty. These two specialties have the most education, training and experience in the mechanics and diseases of the neck and back. The neurologist' s training is in the study and treatment of disorders that affect the nervous system. They diagnose and treat things like stroke, Alzheimer's, MS, Parkinson's, etc. The specialty is most helpful to spineys in providing testing such as the EMG to determine nerve damage.

You may have spinal nerve compression as a result of the bulging disc pressing on a spinal nerve root. This can result in pain, tingling, etc. in the lower back or anywhere along the path of that nerve. Or it could be that you have an issue in the cervical spine that is pushing into the spinal cord. This can result in pain, tingling, numbness, etc. at any level below the level of the nerve that is affected, including the legs and feet. Symptoms flow from the level of the problem downward. For example, a compressed nerve at L4 will not cause symptoms above the L4 level.

I don't know what type of problems you are having with your hip, but problems with the lower lumbar area often result in pain that radiates out to the hip. Often people think they have hip bursitis or similar, only to find out they have a herniated disc at L4-L5 or L5-S1.
Yes i do have a bugling disc in L5 S1. But before i found that out...i thought it was the low Vitamin D or the c. diff. For the neck and shoulder pain. It hurts like something else today. Hoping my x-rays or in. Trying to keep up with my 16 month old is hard. But I posted above about the banding i had along my bra line of tingling burning and if I press on areas of my neck and between my shoulders blades it hurts and my right shoulder feels like the bone is rubbing together. Both both shoulders hurt. Just a little differently sometimes. I have tingling in hand and feet for a year now (give or take). Twitching in legs. I've had a lot going on in the past year with health. At first I didn't know what was wrong. But I'm staying hopeful and thanks about the info orthopedic spine surgeon or a neurosurgeon. I just found this out the bulging disc about 2 or 3 weeks ago. Follower up appointment with Neurologist is on the 24th. Not sure what she wants to do at this point. But I should have x-rays results and upper EMG done before that date. So I will know more whats going on with my upper back then.
